About Cilique (Oral Contraceptive)
Cilique is a combined oral contraceptive containing two hormones: norgestimate (a progestin) and ethinylestradiol (an oestrogen). It prevents pregnancy mainly by stopping ovulation.
It also thickens cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach an egg. For many, the main benefit is a straightforward, once-daily pill not linked to the timing of sex.
How to take Cilique
- Some packages are 28-day packs with 21 active (hormone-containing) pills and 7 inactive (reminder, no hormone) pills.
- Some packages are 21-day packs with 21 active (hormone-containing) pills followed by a 7-day pill-free break.

Medication interactions worth knowing about
Some medicines and supplements can make birth control pills less effective or increase side effects. Common examples are certain anti-seizure drugs, some HIV medicines, and the antibiotic rifampin.
St John’s wort can also reduce effectiveness. Always share your full medication and supplement list with your prescriber or pharmacist.
